RICHFIELD — Graffiti vandals have hit part of the Crosstown construction project. Not long after the concrete walls went up near Diamond Lake Road, so did the graffiti. 200,000 cars a day drive past this eyesore. Steve Barrett, who oversees the Crosstown project, says graffiti has popped up everywhere. From trailers to construction cranes, vandalism is widespread. Since the retaining wall hasn’t been painted yet, MnDOT crews will probably wait until the summer to remove the graffiti when they finish the rest of the wall. The cost of removing graffiti from a construction project is about $1.50 a square foot. But in addition to the costs, many times graffiti removal requires special measures, like closing down a lane of traffic.
