An Australian man learned the hard way not to urinate on a transformer when he was electrocuted and almost died.
The unnamed man, a Gold Coast graffiti vandal, ended up with severe burns on almost half his body after he and three associates snuck into the Coomera railway power station.
At some point he received a potentially lethal shock of 22,000 volts that has left him hospitalised for the foreseeable future.
Ignoring signs reading ‘Danger: High Voltage’, the vandals cut through wire fences and scaled the transformer in the rain around midnight on 15 October.
While he was horribly injured, the current may have partially bypassed his body due to his rain-soaked clothes, The Courier-Mail reports.
His companions told ambulance workers the man was injured when he urinated on the transformer.
But police believe the urination story is a coverup for the true intention – graffiti. They believe he snuck into the power station with the intent to tag it with the word ‘Wino’.
As he climbed the transformer to tag it, they believe he bumped into a highly-charged ‘bush head’ and was thrown to the concrete down below.
Services on the Gold Coast line shut down for most of October 17 due to the transformer damage and the cost to taxpayers for the incident ran well into hundreds of thousands of dollars, a source told the Courier-Mail.
Despite the cost, the man’s injuries are so severe that police are not rushing to press charges.

Gym Class Heroes rocker Travie McCoy has been arrested in Germany after reportedly spraying graffiti on the remains of the Berlin Wall.
Katy Perry’s ex was caught by cops tagging one of the last remnants of the historical wall late on Wednesday night after his band’s concert at the city’s Magnet Club.
McCoy was taken into custody and later released on $2,080 bail.
The singer will have a hard time pleading not guilty to charges — he pre-announced his graffiti attack on his Twitter blog, writing, “The Berlin wall. I’m def gettin up on this before we leave tonight!!!” He then posted pictures of his artwork, which included his name in bubbled lettering.
McCoy faces a maximum sentence of three years in jail.
The man in the hooded sweatshirt and cargo pants was not recognizable, but the three letters he was rendering as a 15-foot mural on the wall of a Hell’s Kitchen building certainly were: B.N.E. This mischievous monogram, posted by marker, spray can, roller and especially stickers, has become part of the landscape of New York and cities worldwide, thrilling graffiti admirers and roiling public officials. Its saturation has provoked one of the more enduring Internet mysteries: What and who is B.N.E.?
After a thorough interrogation of the suspect over the weekend … well, he would not really say. In what he said was his first interview with a journalist, the man in the hooded sweatshirt said he was responsible for this viral dissemination of the three-lettered puzzle, but refused to divulge his name, age or many details about his background and method, for fear of arrest. He also refused to have his face photographed or to say what B.N.E. stands for. His initials, perhaps?…[Read More]

He made his name through graffiti artwork, but now one of Banksy’s murals has had to be rescued – from graffiti.
Two fans of the secretive guerrilla artist are spending thousands of pounds to restore a giant artwork called Large Graffiti Slogan, after vandals ‘defaced’ it with spray paint.
A team of builders cut out the three-ton section of reinforced concrete wall carrying the street art, lifted it by crane on to a lorry and took it to a secret location where it will be cleaned up.

Sacha Jenkins and David “Chino” Villorente co-hosted the “Piecebook Battle” @ Fondation Cartier in the Montparnasse district of Paris. It was very cool. Despite the intermittent rain, the crowds came through all day to support the 15 contestants and four finalists chosen by the hosts and my mellow JonOne 156 (Dominican Power!).
